MrWatchMaster Thinks: The Art of Horology

Art and horology are inextricably linked. We often talk about the ‘art of watchmaking’ and the wonderful craftsmanship it takes to produce stunning timepieces. Actually, as shown in our recent feature about our visit to the British Museum, since the beginning of the 16th century watchmakers have produced highly decorative and exquisite timepieces.

So it is interesting to see this trend continue with the likes of MB&F, Greubel Forsey and F.P. Journe putting art at the heart of their businesses. In the case of F.P. Journe, a Friend of MrWatchMaster, we were delighted to see their continuing support for the Art World, with their recent support of the second edition of artmonte-carlo.

The ‘Prix Off artmonte-carlo F.P. Journe’ rewards the best ‘Art Space’ presented to one of the 15 participating Institutions. It was awarded to the Institution Svetlana from New York for the best art space dedicated to Mathieu Malouf and Matthew Langan-Peck.

The ‘Off Award’ grants the winning Institution the financing of a cultural project in collaboration with F.P. Journe which we look forward to seeing in the near future.
