We had a real sense of excitement and anticipation for our visit to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) which took place in Geneva this week (15th to 19th January). It was a busy time for MrWatchMaster at this year’s Salon as we met fantastic people and iconic brands. It was a great opportunity to meet the watch industry’s finest and see some amazing timepieces.
There were industry professionals, journalists, collectors and watch enthusiasts who travelled from all over the world to be in Geneva for this prestigious Fine Watchmaking event. Although dominated by Richemont brands, this year’s 28th edition, included six prestigious names making their debut; Hermès in the main concourse at the Palexpo; Armin Strom, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, DeWitt, élégante by F.P.Journe and Romain Gauthier at the Carré des Horlogers.
The total number of exhibitors is 35, with 18 Historic Maisons and 17 brands in the Carré des Horlogers.
It was apparent that many brands are looking for differentiation in offering more bespoke and personlised timepieces allowing prospective owners to have input into the design process – the result being a ‘unique’ piece. This has been a general trend that has emerged over the past 18-months in the luxury goods and across other sectors.
There were plenty of stunning examples of the ‘Art of Horology’, with particularly fine work from Bovet with their demonstration of miniature dial painting and their unique ‘three-in-one’ timepieces.
We really enjoyed seeing the magnificent Detouche astronomical clock at F.P. Journe’s showroom. In stark contrast we were given the opportunity to try the new Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante Titanium model, part of the lineSport collection which also comes in red gold.
We also spent an enjoyable time at the FERT & Cie gallery meeting with the team at Rebellion watches.
