AWAKE has expanded its Frosted Leaf collection with Royal Red, a strictly limited edition of 100 pieces that marks a meaningful technical and aesthetic evolution for the brand.
More than a new colourway, Royal Red reinterprets AWAKE’s Frosted Leaf dial technique through the lens of ancestral Vietnamese Sơn Mài lacquerwork, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary watchmaking intent.
The dial is the clear focal point. For the first time in the Frosted Leaf series, pure silver leaf—tinted with copper pigments—is used as the final layer rather than being buried beneath lacquer. This inversion of process allows light to interact directly with the material, producing depth, organic texture, and a warm interplay of red and gold tones. Each dial is handcrafted in AWAKE’s Hanoi workshop using a painstaking “mille-feuille” construction of lacquer, natural pigments, and silver leaf. Nearly fifteen hours of manual work go into every dial, ensuring no two are alike.

Inspired by ritual objects from across Asia, the palette carries deep symbolic weight. Red evokes vitality, energy, and creative force; gold suggests wisdom, transmission, and mastery of time. Together, they form a visual dialogue that feels both ancient and modern—precisely the balance AWAKE seeks to strike in its work.
Royal Red also introduces a refined evolution of AWAKE’s signature luminous “coiffe.” Rather than overpowering the dial, the lume is designed to subtly reveal the artisan’s gesture. Discreet in daylight, it emerges softly in the dark, creating a backlit effect that accentuates the lacquer’s relief, reflections, and living texture.
Power comes from the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, offering a 68-hour power reserve and proven reliability. Visible through the caseback, the movement is fitted with an exclusive AWAKE tungsten rotor, finished with a mix of polished, brushed, and micro-beaded surfaces, and framed by an engraved ring bearing the edition details and the brand’s motto: Artisanship, Awakened.
The watch is paired with a red suede calfskin strap handcrafted by Maison Bouveret in Franche-Comté. Each strap undergoes more than 60 production steps and is rubber-lined for durability, comfort, and resistance to moisture—details collectors will appreciate in daily wear.
With its fully handcrafted dials, reinterpreted ancestral techniques, Swiss movement, recycled stainless-steel case and buckle, and limited run of just 100 pieces, the AWAKE Frosted Leaf Royal Red presents a compelling blend of cultural depth and horological value.
