Skeletonised Panerai Submersible GMT PAM01495 Is Built For The Deep

Panerai continues to refine its modern tool-watch narrative with the introduction of the Submersible GMT PAM01495, an assertive, technically ambitious diver that fuses cutting-edge materials with unmistakable lineage.

Rooted in a history of crafting precision instruments for the Italian Navy, the Florentine maison remains focused on purpose-driven design. The PAM01495 is a clear extension of that philosophy, a watch engineered not for show, but for performance under pressure.

At 47mm, the case is formed using Titanium DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering), a technology Panerai has championed since filing its patent in 2012. Built layer by layer from Grade 5 titanium powder, the process enables the creation of complex internal cavities, reducing overall weight while preserving structural integrity. The result is a case approximately 25% lighter than traditional titanium constructions, and significantly lighter than steel, yet highly resistant to corrosion, an essential attribute for serious marine use.

The sandblasted titanium case is complemented by a matching bezel featuring a matte blue ceramic insert, lending both durability and a contemporary aesthetic. Water resistance is rated to an impressive 50 bar (500 metres), a noteworthy feat for a skeletonised timepiece.

At its core lies the P.4001/S automatic calibre, a sophisticated openworked movement comprising 341 components and protected by two patents. First introduced in 2021, this calibre balances mechanical complexity with practical usability. Its standout feature is the innovative polarised date display—virtually invisible across the dial, yet clearly legible at 3 o’clock, preserving the integrity of the skeletonised architecture without sacrificing functionality.

A 12-hour GMT complication with AM/PM indicator enhances the watch’s versatility, while the signature orange GMT hand ensures instant legibility in all conditions, echoing its utilitarian roots in maritime signalling.

Functionality remains paramount. A patented jumping-hour mechanism allows for quick local time adjustment in one-hour increments, ideal for travel, while a seconds reset feature enables precise synchronisation, a subtle nod to Panerai’s military heritage.

Powering the movement is an off-centred micro-rotor, designed to maintain visual openness while delivering a robust three-day power reserve via twin barrels. A sapphire indicator on the caseback provides a discreet yet practical display of remaining էնergy.

Visually, the movement’s distinctive grid-like structure pays tribute to maritime netting once used in naval harbours, an understated but meaningful design cue that ties the watch back to its origins.

Despite its technical intricacy, the PAM01495 remains every bit a professional diving instrument. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows precise tracking of immersion time, while Super-LumiNova®-treated markers and hands ensure optimal visibility underwater. Blue luminescence highlights critical dive information, while green illumination distinguishes secondary elements for clarity.

Completing the package is a blue rubber strap, with an additional bi-material black strap supplied in a refined blue cherry wood presentation box.

The Submersible GMT PAM01495 will be available exclusively through Panerai boutiques from May 2026, a bold, contemporary expression of a brand that continues to push the boundaries of modern tool watchmaking while staying firmly anchored in its past.
