Tiffany & Co. Marks 160 Years Of Chronograph Heritage With New Tiffany Timer
Tiffany & Co. continues its celebration of 160 years since the debut of its first chronograph with the launch of a second limited-edition Tiffany Timer. Following the platinum version unveiled earlier this year, this latest edition pairs lightweight Grade 5 titanium with platinum accents and is limited to just 100 pieces worldwide.
The new Tiffany Timer pays tribute to the House’s rich watchmaking history while combining contemporary materials with one of horology’s most iconic chronograph movements.
A Legacy Dating Back to 1866
Although best known today for its jewellery, Tiffany & Co.’s watchmaking credentials stretch back almost two centuries. Having begun retailing watches in 1847, founder Charles Lewis Tiffany quickly recognised the importance of precision timekeeping.
In 1866, the House introduced its first stopwatch, originally known as the Timing Watch before being renamed the Tiffany Timer two years later. Its arrival coincided with the opening of Tiffany’s Swiss watch assembly workshop, while a dedicated Geneva manufacture followed in 1874, producing increasingly sophisticated chronographs and calendar watches.
This latest Tiffany Timer draws direct inspiration from that pioneering era.
Titanium Meets Platinum
The 40mm case combines satin-brushed Grade 5 titanium with a polished platinum bezel, creating an elegant contrast between lightness and luxury. The flowing case profile integrates curved chronograph pushers that also serve as crown guards, giving the watch a distinctive and highly ergonomic silhouette.
A sun-ray dark blue dial is punctuated with subtle Tiffany Blue® accents on the chronograph track, sub-dial markers and date display, an understated nod to one of luxury’s most recognisable colours.
The classic three-register layout remains faithful to the El Primero architecture, with chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock, hours at 6 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock, while a discreet date aperture completes the display.
Powered by a Legend
At its heart beats a customised version of Zenith’s legendary El Primero 400. Introduced in 1969 as the world’s first fully integrated automatic chronograph movement, the El Primero remains one of the most celebrated chronograph calibres ever produced.
Its column-wheel construction and high-frequency architecture have earned it enduring status among collectors, making it a fitting choice for a watch celebrating Tiffany & Co.’s chronograph heritage. The movement offers a 50-hour power reserve and is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
A Bird Takes Flight
Perhaps the most charming detail lies on the reverse. Mounted on the open-worked oscillating weight is a miniature recreation of Jean Schlumberger’s celebrated Bird on a Rock. Hand-carved from a single piece of 18-carat yellow gold, the tiny bird measures just 1.4cm across and is painstakingly polished using traditional techniques, including diamond abrasives and gentian wood tools, to achieve its remarkable depth and lustre. Each caseback is individually engraved “Limited Edition of 100”, reinforcing the exclusivity of the watch.
Limited to 100 Pieces
Completing the watch is a navy alligator leather strap secured by a triple-folding titanium and steel clasp. Water resistant to 100 metres and backed by a five-year international warranty, the Tiffany Timer will be available from September 2026 in a strictly limited edition of 100 pieces.
