Vacheron Constantin have unveiled three new stunning interpretations of the Grand Lady Kalla, following the first release in 2024.
Much more than simply a watch that is embellished with gemstones, Grand Lady Kalla is conceived as a High Jewellery piece from the outset, expressing time in the most creative way. The Grand Lady Kalla reflects the Maison’s long and rich history of jewellery and pendant watches, where the Manufacture has cultivated creativity imbued with fine craftsmanship in the realm of Haute Joaillerie. Based on the design of the iconic Kalla introduced in 1980 – itself heir to the Kallista unveiled in 1979, the 2024 Grand Lady Kalla honours the name that inspired it: the Greek word kallista meaning ‘the most beautiful’.
With its rectilinear geometry and graceful lines, the Grand Lady Kalla pays homage to the timeless Art Deco aesthetic. Available in three dazzling versions – sapphire, ruby, or emerald – each creation totals 45.66 carats of diamonds across four interchangeable elements: a watch, bracelet, jewel piece, and sautoir necklace.
The three-row rivière bracelet sparkles with 103 diamonds, accented by eight coloured gemstones. The jewel piece, crowned with a sugarloaf-cut sapphire, ruby or emerald, adds sculptural depth. All coloured stones are SSEF-certified for authenticity and excellence.
The watch features a fully diamond-set dial framed by two emerald-cut coloured stones and ten matching diamonds, blending precision with glamour. Both the watch and jewel piece can be seamlessly attached to the bracelet or the elegant 85 cm sautoir, composed of 112 lustrous Akoya pearls and polished gemstone beads, finished with a tassel flourish.
Celebrating the refined emerald cut, each piece reflects a balance of geometry and grace. Its stepped facets produce subtle, sophisticated flashes of light, allowing the purity and colour of each gem to shine through – a true testament to the artistry of fine jewellery watchmaking.
The Grand Lady Kalla – Sapphire is set in 18K white gold and features a total of ~49.72 carats of sapphires: eight emerald-cut sapphires on the bracelet, two on the watch and two on the jewel piece, along with one sugarloaf-cut sapphire (~2.54 carats). On the sautoir, 31 polished beads of blue sapphire are complemented by the soft glow of 112 Akoya pearls and 20 polished beads of blue chalcedony.
The Grand Lady Kalla – Ruby is set in 18K white gold with a total of ~49.85 carats of rubies: eight emerald-cut rubies on the bracelet, two on the watch and two on the jewel piece, along with one sugarloaf-cut ruby (~2.45 carats). On the sautoir, 31 polished beads of ruby are complemented by the soft glow of 112 Akoya pearls and 20 polished beads of pink chalcedony.
The Grand Lady Kalla – Emerald is set in 950 platinum, with a total of ~35.72 carats of emeralds: eight emerald-cut emeralds on the bracelet, two on the watch and two on the jewel piece, along with one sugarloaf-cut emerald (~1.95 carats). On the sautoir, 31 polished beads of emeralds are complemented by the soft glow of 112 Akoya pearls and 20 polished beads of chrysoprase.
Answering women’s desire for versatile jewels that can be worn in multiple ways, Grand Lady Kalla’s elements enable it to be worn in four different ways, adapting to different styles and occasions. Fitting the watch to the sautoir revives the elegant gestures of the late 19th and early 20th century, when women often wore pendant watches and glanced at the time by gently lifting the sautoir with their fingertips. Whether on the sautoir or the bracelet, the watch can be exchanged with the jewel piece in a matter of moments, by means of hidden locking mechanisms that require no tools to operate.
Grand Lady Kalla is presented in an elegant box accompanied by a specially designed document holder that contains a designer’s original gouache of the piece and a certificate of authenticity.
