Panerai Unveils New Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT Platinumtech

Panerai’s finest materials, innovative mechanics, and timeless design come together in the new Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT Platinumtech PAM01575, expanding the premium range for collectors and aficionados.

Crafted from Panerai Platinumtech™, an exclusive alloy composed of 95% pure platinum, this exceptional 44mm timepiece redefines durability and luxury. Engineered through a specialised treatment process, its case boasts 40% greater hardness than standard platinum, offering enhanced scratch resistance while maintaining an unmistakable weight – 33% heavier than 18-carat gold – for a commanding presence on the wrist.

The watch’s bold aesthetic is accentuated by Panerai’s signature crown-protecting device and a mesmerising blue sapphire crystal dial, which offers a transparent view of the day and date disks. This intricate detail not only adds depth and intrigue but also ensures impeccable clarity. The deep oceanic blue hue, contrasted against luminescent applied indexes and hands, is a direct nod to Panerai’s rich maritime heritage.

Designed for superior legibility in all conditions, the watch features Super-LumiNova® X2 on the hour, minute, and small-second hands, as well as markers that emit a striking green glow—an advancement in luminosity over previous iterations. The dial remains uncluttered and refined, displaying only the most essential functions: hours, minutes, day, date, a 12-hour GMT hand, a 24-hour GMT sub-dial at 9 o’clock, small seconds, and a day-night indicator.

True to Panerai’s ethos of innovation and effortless usability, this timepiece masterfully integrates high complications while maintaining an intuitive display. The sapphire case back reveals additional calendar functions—including month, year, and leap year—offering a rare glimpse into the sophisticated craftsmanship of the P.4100 movement. The only outward acknowledgment of the watch’s remarkable complexity is the elegant inscription: “Calendario Perpetuo”—a tribute to both its perpetual calendar complication and Panerai’s storied Italian heritage.

The P.4100 calibre, an automatic mechanical movement, represents over ten years of research and development by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee. Engineered for both precision and endurance, it boasts a three-day power reserve, powered by two barrels and an off-centred gold micro-rotor. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), this movement ensures exceptional accuracy while maintaining a compact profile—just 35.1mm in diameter and 7mm thick—allowing for optimal space utilization within the case.

One of its most remarkable feats is its perpetual calendar function, capable of calculating the date correctly up to the year 2399 without requiring any modifications. At the turn of each century, a simple adjustment by a watchmaker—rotating the hundreds disc by 90°—is all that’s needed to keep time seamlessly ticking forward.

A key highlight of the P.4100 movement is its intuitive adjustment system, allowing wearers to effortlessly modify the day, date, month, and leap year settings using only the crown. Unlike traditional perpetual calendars that often require specialised tools or professional intervention, this system enables smooth, unrestricted adjustments—forwards or backwards—without risk, even around delicate transitions like midnight or month-end.

Panerai has further reinforced durability with its patented date shock protection system, designed to stabilize the date disk and safeguard against misalignment caused by sudden impacts. Unlike conventional perpetual calendars, which can be thrown off by a sharp jolt, the P.4100’s enhanced resilience minimises the need for manual corrections, ensuring long-term reliability and reducing the frequency of servicing.

A perfect fusion of innovation and practicality, the P.4100 calibre is a testament to Panerai’s relentless pursuit of excellence—offering watch enthusiasts a movement that is as sophisticated as it is user-friendly.

Water resistant up to 5 BAR, approximately 50 meters, the watch has been rigorously tested, subjecting it to a pressure 25% greater than the guaranteed water resistance value to ensure it meets Panerai’s standards.

Matching with the dial and GMT hand, the new timepiece comes with an elegant dark blue alligator strap with handmade vintage patina finish as well as a more casual blue rubber strap, making it versatile for various occasions. PAM01575 is available exclusively in Panerai boutiques.
