Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 Is A Modern Masterpiece in Motion

Originally unveiled in 2023, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 stands as a breathtaking embodiment of the Hybris philosophy – a perfect union of technical brilliance and artistic mastery.

In 2025, La Grande Maison revisits this horological icon, unveiling a striking new interpretation adorned with black hand-lacquered dials on both sides, framed within a radiant 18K pink gold case. Limited to just ten exceptional pieces, this new edition is a tribute to the timeless dialogue between craftsmanship and innovation.

At the heart of the Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 lies the fourth generation of the Gyrotourbillon – an extraordinary multi-axis tourbillon conceived specifically for the Reverso. An ultra-light titanium inner cage rotates every 16 seconds, while the outer carriage completes a full revolution each minute. This mesmerising ballet of motion is supported by a ring of ball bearings, creating the illusion of a tourbillon suspended in space.

A semi-spherical balance spring and the sculptural Gyrolab balance wheel – with its distinctive double-anchor design – embody Jaeger-LeCoultre’s relentless pursuit of precision and efficiency.

Echoing the geometric elegance of the Art Deco era, the new black and grey palette of the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 creates a striking contrast with its pink gold architecture.

On the front dial, the decorative plates and bridges form an intricate lattice of fine lines – a pattern meticulously laser-cut to create 200 hand-lacquered hollows, each filled and polished by a single craftsman. The result is a hypnotic play of light and depth, perfectly flush with the precious metal surface.

Flip the case, and the reverse dial reveals a more ethereal expression – openworked bridges and a skeletonised hour-minute ring enhanced by glossy black lacquer. The visual balance of air and substance evokes the soul of contemporary haute horlogerie, merging laser precision with hand-finished artistry.

Few designs capture the essence of the Art Deco movement as profoundly as the Reverso. Its geometric form, harmonious proportions and iconic gadroons have become timeless hallmarks of modern elegance.

The Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 pays homage to this heritage while pushing creative boundaries. Inside the cradle, a deeply engraved sunray motif radiates from a black lacquer disc, adding a hidden layer of refinement known only to the wearer.

Despite housing a movement composed of 382 components, the watch maintains a sleek profile – just 13.63 mm thick – and wears effortlessly on the wrist. Its patented double-wheel folding clasp, crafted from 18K pink gold and micro-adjustable to 0.5mm, is itself a miniature feat of engineering.

Each Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 is the product of the 180 skills united under one roof at the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. From master watchmakers to lacquer artists, engravers and polishers, every discipline contributes to a creation that transcends timekeeping – an objet d’art in perpetual motion.

With only ten pieces available worldwide, this latest interpretation of the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 stands as a testament to the enduring dialogue between art and precision, tradition and innovation – the very essence of La Grande Maison.
