Vacheron Constantin pushes the Overseas collection into new territory with its first tourbillon model combining grade 5 titanium and a deep red dial, a bold yet disciplined expression of modern high watchmaking.
Titanium feels right at home here. Light, tough, and unmistakably sporty, it aligns perfectly with the Overseas ethos. Thirty percent stronger than steel and weighing roughly half as much, it delivers real-world performance without sacrificing elegance. Vacheron Constantin has been refining its use of titanium for over a decade—from early Overseas components in 2009, to the Everest editions with Cory Richards, to the fully titanium skeleton tourbillon in 2022. This latest iteration feels like a natural evolution.
The deep red dial is the star. Finished with a sunburst satin-brush and framed by a lacquered flange, it adds warmth and intensity while drawing the eye straight to the tourbillon, where haute horlogerie takes centre stage. The case measures just 10.39mm thick, a remarkable achievement for a titanium automatic tourbillon, and its finishing is textbook Overseas: vertical satin-brushing on the case and bracelet, polished chamfers on the links, and a bezel inspired by the Maltese cross with a circular satin-brushed finish set against a sandblasted ring.
Inside beats the ultra-thin calibre 2160, certified with the Hallmark of Geneva and measuring just 5.65mm thick. This automatic tourbillon movement uses a peripheral oscillating weight, crafted from guilloché 916/1000 gold, to keep the movement slim while offering an unobstructed view through the caseback. The result is both technical and visual clarity, with an impressive 80-hour power reserve.
The tourbillon itself is engineered with purpose. Its openworked cage uses a peripheral drive, eliminating the need for a central pinion and ensuring more efficient energy transmission from barrel to balance. Every one of the movement’s 188 components is finished to the highest standard: circular-grained mainplate, Côtes de Genève bridges with hand-beveled edges, polished and chamfered screws, grained wheels, and a delicately cradled tourbillon shank.
Versatility remains a core strength. The integrated titanium bracelet features a triple-blade folding clasp with a 4mm comfort-adjustment system, while two additional rubber straps, one deep red, one white, can be swapped in without tools, using a matching grade 5 titanium clasp.
This Overseas tourbillon isn’t just ultra-thin, ultra-light, or ultra-technical. It’s proof that sporty watchmaking and Geneva Seal finishing can coexist, without compromise.
