This remarkable creation introduces the Hybris Inventiva line, a new chapter dedicated to singular, groundbreaking complications. Unlike its Hybris Mechanica and Hybris Artistica siblings, this collection focuses on one idea at a time, but pushes it to an extreme, resulting in something that feels genuinely new in modern watchmaking.
A Tourbillon Taken to Extremes
At the heart of the watch lies Calibre 178, a movement built around a triple, axis Gyrotourbillon that challenges conventional limits. While traditional tourbillons address the effects of gravity in a fixed position, and even double axis systems expand that capability, this construction goes significantly further.
Its three rotating cages operate on different axes and speeds, 20, 60 and 90 seconds respectively, ensuring that the regulating organ is almost never in the same orientation. The result is a system that covers 98 percent of all possible positions, an extraordinary figure that places it among the most ambitious attempts at precision ever seen in a wristwatch.
Despite its complexity, the entire mechanism weighs less than a gram. Comprising 189 components, it demonstrates not only engineering sophistication but also a relentless pursuit of efficiency and lightness.

The Hybris Inventiva concept is rooted in ideas once considered impossible. Within the manufacture, such concepts can remain in development for years, sometimes decades, explored quietly by a select group of watchmakers and engineers.
Only when these ideas mature into viable, functioning calibres are they revealed. Even then, production remains extremely limited. Each piece serves as a “modèle maître”, a foundation that may later inspire further complications or artistic reinterpretations across the wider Hybris universe.
Mechanics as Art
Beyond its technical achievement, the Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère is also a striking visual object. The movement has been treated not simply as a mechanism, but as a canvas.
Traditional decorative techniques, guillochage, enamel, lacquer, are applied across bridges, plates and even barrel covers, blurring the line between movement and dial. Sixteen finishing methods are used throughout, with 65 hours dedicated solely to hand bevelling.
The front reveals a rich interplay of blue enamel and openworked architecture, while two decentralised rings display the time and seconds. At six o’clock, the triple axis tourbillon dominates, constantly in motion, drawing the eye into its hypnotic choreography.
Turn the watch over, and the spectacle continues. A sapphire caseback exposes the reverse of the calibre, where white gold bridges, ruby jewels and traditional finishing techniques provide a more classical, yet equally captivating, perspective.
Precision Meets Presence
Despite its complexity, the watch remains wearable. Housed in a 42mm platinum case, it balances presence with refinement. The manually wound movement beats at 4 Hz and delivers a 72 hour power reserve, an impressive figure given the energy demands of such a system.
Every surface of the case is carefully finished, polished, brushed and micro blasted, creating subtle shifts in light that echo the dynamism within.
