Panerai Introduces New Submersible Navy SEALs
Panerai continues to build on its longstanding military heritage with the introduction of the new Submersible Navy SEALs PAM01738, a professional-grade dive watch inspired by one of the world’s most elite special operations forces.
Since the launch of the Navy SEALs collection in 2022, the Florentine-born watchmaker has used the platform to showcase its expertise in creating robust, purpose-built tool watches. The collection has steadily evolved to include a variety of Submersible and Luminor references crafted from advanced materials such as Carbotech™ and titanium, while incorporating complications and functions designed for demanding environments.
The latest addition arrives alongside the recently unveiled Submersible Navy SEALs Experience Edition PAM01089 and brings a more accessible interpretation of the concept in a versatile 44mm stainless steel case.
At its heart is Panerai’s automatic P.980 calibre, offering a three-day power reserve and featuring a traversing balance bridge for improved stability and precision. A stop-seconds mechanism enables accurate synchronisation, a practical feature rooted in the brand’s historic relationship with military diving units where precise timing was essential.
Designed as a serious diving instrument, the PAM01738 features a unidirectional rotating bezel with a matte black ceramic insert, combining the toughness of stainless steel with the scratch-resistant properties of ceramic. Water-resistant to an impressive 500 metres, the watch is engineered to withstand the pressures associated with professional underwater exploration.
Legibility has always been central to Panerai’s design philosophy and the new Navy SEALs model is no exception. Large hour markers and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova® X2, delivering enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The hour markers emit a green glow, while the minute hand and bezel marker shine blue, allowing divers to instantly distinguish critical timing indications underwater.
The anthracite gradient dial introduces subtle military-inspired details, including yellow accents, a target-style small seconds display at 9 o’clock and dedicated Navy SEALs branding. Completing the theme, the caseback is engraved with the officially licensed Navy SEALs insignia.
Versatility is enhanced by the inclusion of two interchangeable straps. A black rubber strap is supplied for aquatic use, while a grey canvas alternative lends the watch a more rugged, everyday aesthetic.
Beyond its specifications, the PAM01738 reflects Panerai’s commitment to durability. Every watch undergoes extensive testing, including water-resistance verification beyond stated ratings, thermal shock assessments, impact testing and accelerated lifecycle simulations designed to replicate years of wear in a matter of weeks.
