Breguet continues its artistic partnership with Frieze by taking part at the 20th edition of the London Fair at the Regent’s Park, London.
The luxury watch brand welcomes visitors to its new stand, developed in collaboration with the curator Somi Sim (above left), who will present Resisting Time, a new exhibition exploring the possibilities of time as a resistance to the conventions, customs, and hierarchies that dominate our daily lives, and the ways artists continue to expand time keeping practices.
Somi Sim recently unveiled an exhibition about Orbital Time during Frieze New York in May 2023, and presented Streaming Time at Frieze Seoul in September 2023, the independent curator exhibits her third concept with a new aspect of time with the theme Resisting Time.
“When I visited the Breguet M anufacture earlier this year,I was deeply impressed by the craftsmanship and dedication of the watchmakers. Observing these artisans as they immersed themselves in watchmaking, balancing their bodies and minds reminded me of two artists: Hanne Darboven and Julien Coignet. Both artists share a common thread in their practices of counting, collecting, and recording time while evolving their own creative systems and daily labour.”

Among the two artists selected to be exhibited at the Breguet Stand, Somi Sim chose a German conceptual artist Hanne Darboven (1941 2009) and French artist Julien Coignet.
Breguet has consistently distinguished itself at the forefront of watchmaking, thanks to the avant-garde spirit of its founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet. Whether in innovations such as the invention of the tourbillon or ‘the souscription watch’ or in aesthetics with the introduction of guillochage in watchmaking or Breguet hands. In addition, many artists are part of the brand’s clientele and some have even been inspired by Breguet in their works – such is the case of the painter Hans Erni who placed the founder of Breguet, Abraham-Louis, at the centre of his work ‘Philosophy of the Measurement of Time’.
Since then, Breguet has never ceased to appreciate art in all its forms, especially in its workshops in the Vallée de Joux of Switzerland where the brand’s watchmakers continue a long tradition of expertise – particularly in the fields of engraving, angling, enamelling and guilloché.
