Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Returns In British Racing Green

Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Returns In British Racing Green

A symbol of Chopard’s long-standing passion for motorsport, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph returns in a striking new guise, an exclusive 100-piece limited edition created for the United Kingdom.

Inspired by the legendary Mille Miglia, which the Maison has proudly sponsored since 1988, this latest release captures the romance and competitive spirit of historic racing.

Housed in a 40.5mm case, the watch strikes an ideal balance between driving ergonomics and refined elegance. Crafted from Lucent Steel™—Chopard’s proprietary alloy known for its durability and luminous sheen—the case features a sophisticated interplay of polished and satin-brushed finishes across the bezel, crown and pushers. Details such as knurled chronograph pushers, reminiscent of brake pedals, and a notched crown for enhanced grip reinforce its automotive inspiration, while welded lugs highlight the brand’s meticulous attention to craftsmanship.

The dial, rendered in rich British Racing Green, pays homage to the UK’s historic motorsport colour. Its highly legible layout is framed by a white minute track and tachymeter scale, while white hour markers and rhodium-plated hands are enhanced with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova® for optimal visibility in low light. A subtle yet distinctive detail, the red-tipped chronograph seconds hand echoes the iconic Mille Miglia arrow emblem.

A sapphire crystal ‘glass box’ design crowns the dial, enhancing depth and clarity while lending a distinctly vintage aesthetic. Completing the look is a dark green rubber strap embossed with a tyre-tread pattern—an innovation Chopard helped pioneer within the Mille Miglia collection—drawing inspiration from 1960s Dunlop racing tyres.

Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire caseback adorned with crossed flags: the chequered racing flag and the Union Jack, underscoring its British exclusivity. Beneath, a self-winding chronograph movement beats with Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) certification, delivering precision performance and a 54-hour power reserve.

The Legacy of British Racing Green

The distinctive green hue traces its origins to early 20th-century motorsport, when nations adopted specific colours for racing competition during the Gordon Bennett Cup races. When Britain entered in 1902, it chose green—later formalised as “Shamrock Green” at the 1903 race in Ireland—as a tribute to its hosts. Over time, British Racing Green has become an enduring emblem of the UK’s motorsport heritage, synonymous with engineering excellence and racing prestige.
