Herbelin Newport Moon Phase Combines Maritime Elegance With Celestial Poetry

With the latest evolution of its Newport collection, HERBELIN ventures beyond the horizon, towards the quiet rhythm of the moon.

For nearly four decades, the Newport has stood as a pillar of the Maison’s identity, a refined expression of nautical inspiration, defined by balanced proportions and unmistakable design codes. Now, that legacy takes on a more poetic dimension. The introduction of a moon phase complication, tracking lunar cycles across both hemispheres, adds not just technical intrigue, but an emotional connection to the passage of time.

A Dial That Echoes the Moon Itself

The artistry begins at the dial. HERBELIN offers a trio of executions, each with its own personality, deep blue lacquer for classic maritime allure, genuine mother-of-pearl for iridescent elegance, and most notably, a ‘lunar surface’ finish. This latter variation is where the collection truly distinguishes itself, its textured surface subtly mimicking the craters and contours of the moon in shades of blue or grey.

Positioned at 6 o’clock, the moon phase display integrates seamlessly into this celestial landscape, creating a sense of depth and visual harmony. Faceted applied indices and finely shaped hands complete the composition, ensuring clarity without compromising sophistication.

Precision Beneath the Surface

Powering the Newport Moon Phase is the Swiss-made Sellita SW280-2 Power+ automatic movement, a calibre respected for its reliability and refined engineering. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it delivers smooth timekeeping alongside a generous 65-hour power reserve.

The movement features a moon phase complication with quick correction, hacking seconds for precise setting, and a ball-bearing winding system for efficient automatic performance. Each piece is subsequently regulated and inspected at HERBELIN’s workshops in Charquemont, underscoring the brand’s commitment to exacting standards.

The Enduring Newport Identity

First introduced in 1988, the Newport collection has become a cornerstone of HERBELIN’s design language. Its maritime DNA is unmistakable, a bezel punctuated by visible screws, distinctive central lugs, and a dial layout that prioritises both symmetry and legibility.

In this latest iteration, the collection expands its versatility. Whether paired with a supple leather strap or a steel bracelet, and offered in classic steel or refined two-tone configurations, the Newport Moon Phase adapts effortlessly, from understated elegance to a more contemporary, sport-inflected aesthetic.

This is not merely an update. It is a continuation of a story, one that now unfolds in sync with the moon itself.
