Hermès H08 Squelette Stripped Back To The Essentials
There’s something quietly radical about a brand like Hermès embracing transparency. Known for its refined restraint and design-led ethos, the maison doesn’t chase horological theatrics for the sake of it.

And yet, with the arrival of the Hermès H08 Squelette, it has done exactly what the name suggests, stripped everything back, and in doing so, revealed a new layer of intent.
Launched under embargo ahead of April 2026, this is not just another addition to the H08 line. It’s a statement of maturity.
A Natural Evolution of the H08
When the original H08 debuted in 2021, it marked a decisive shift for Hermès: a contemporary, sport-inflected watch designed for everyday wear, but executed with the brand’s unmistakable design language. Over the past five years, the collection has evolved steadily, most notably with the introduction of a mono-pusher chronograph, each iteration nudging the H08 further into serious watchmaking territory.
Now comes its most expressive form yet.

The Architecture of Transparency
Skeleton watches can often feel like exercises in excess, too much exposure, not enough discipline. The H08 Squelette avoids that trap entirely. Instead, it approaches openworking as architecture.
Developed over three years in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, the new calibre is not merely revealed, it is structured to be seen. Bridges, screws, and supports are all conceived as part of a cohesive framework. Lines are taut, negative space is deliberate, and the entire composition plays with light in a way that feels engineered rather than decorative.
The result is a watch that doesn’t just expose its mechanics, it organises them.
A Movement Worth Showing
At the heart of the watch is the new Manufacture Hermès H1978S movement, a skeletonised calibre crafted from black PVD-treated titanium. Lightweight yet robust, it reflects a modern approach to watchmaking materials while maintaining the durability expected from a sports watch.

With a 60-hour power reserve and testing equivalent to a decade of continuous wear, this is no fragile showpiece. Even the oscillating weight, rendered in tungsten and shaped in the signature semi-square profile of the H08, feels purpose-built to echo the case design.
This is skeletonisation with substance.
Form Meets Function
The case itself remains faithful to the H08’s distinctive geometry, a 39mm cushion-square form in black DLC-treated titanium. The bezel, executed in sunburst satin-brushed ceramic with polished chamfers, adds a subtle interplay of finishes that complements the movement’s visual depth.

Despite its openworked nature, the watch retains 100 metres of water resistance, underscoring its “all-terrain” credentials. This is a skeleton watch you don’t have to baby.
The dial, if you can call it that, is reduced to essentials: a grey minutes track that mirrors the case shape, and applied numerals carved from Super-LumiNova, offered in either classic or blue. Notably absent is a date window, a decision that reinforces the purity of the design.
Colour and Character
Hermès introduces two main variations. The version with blue hour markers pairs with either black or bleu Zanzibar rubber straps, while the grey-marked model opens up a broader palette, Dune, vert moyen, or bleu abysse.
Each option subtly shifts the personality of the watch, from understated monochrome to something more expressive, yet always within the brand’s carefully curated aesthetic universe.
More Than a Milestone
The H08 Squelette represents a first for Hermès, a fully skeletonised watch within the collection, but it doesn’t feel like a departure. Instead, it feels like a logical next step.
Where many brands use skeletonisation to showcase technical bravado, Hermès uses it to reinforce design coherence. The mechanics are not just visible; they are integrated into the visual identity of the watch.
And that’s what makes this release compelling. It’s not about revealing everything, it’s about revealing just enough, in exactly the right way.
The Hermès H08 Squelette doesn’t just expose its inner workings. It refines them into something unmistakably Hermès.
