Panerai Adds Metal Bracelet To The 44mm Submersible For The First Time

Panerai has expanded its professional dive watch collection with the introduction of the new Submersible PAM01756, a watch that combines the brand’s unmistakable military DNA with one of the most requested upgrades from collectors, a full stainless steel bracelet.

While the headline may seem simple, it’s a significant milestone. This is the first time Panerai has paired its 44mm Submersible case with a metal bracelet, creating a more versatile interpretation of one of the brand’s most capable tool watches.

Built for Purpose

As with every Submersible, functionality comes before decoration. The 44mm brushed stainless steel case is engineered for serious underwater use, complemented by a blue ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel for measuring dive times. Rated to an impressive 500 metres (50 BAR), the PAM01756 remains every inch the professional diving instrument that Panerai has become renowned for.

Inside beats the automatic P.980 calibre, offering a healthy three-day power reserve. The movement also features a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting and a traversing balance bridge designed to improve stability and accuracy, features that echo the brand’s long-standing association with military precision.

A Return to Simplicity

Perhaps the most appealing feature for purists is what isn’t on the dial. The PAM01756 dispenses with a date display entirely, resulting in a wonderfully balanced layout that feels true to Panerai’s historic military watches. With nothing to interrupt the symmetry, the black sun-brushed dial delivers exceptional clarity while allowing the oversized luminous markers and hands to dominate the display.

Legibility remains paramount. White Super-LumiNova® provides excellent daytime contrast, while darkness reveals Panerai’s familiar dual-colour lume system, with green illuminating the hour markers and hour hand, and blue highlighting the minute hand and the bezel reference point, making elapsed dive time instantly recognisable.

Adding another layer of visual interest is the small seconds display at 9 o’clock, finished with a traditional azurage pattern that creates subtle texture without distracting from the watch’s purposeful design.

Bracelet Debut

The biggest talking point, however, is the bracelet. Inspired by the shape of Panerai’s iconic crown-protecting bridge, the newly designed stainless steel bracelet integrates naturally with the case while introducing a more refined everyday character. Alternating brushed and polished surfaces catch the light beautifully, giving the watch a more contemporary presence without compromising its tool-watch credentials.

Practicality hasn’t been overlooked either. The bracelet incorporates Panerai’s Quick Length Adjustment system, allowing the wearer to extend the bracelet by 2mm on each side without tools. It’s a thoughtful addition that accommodates the natural expansion of the wrist throughout the day and improves overall comfort whether travelling, diving or simply coping with warmer weather.

Military Heritage Lives On

Panerai’s connection with the Italian Navy remains woven into every aspect of the Submersible collection. Even the engraved caseback pays tribute to the legendary slow-speed torpedo used by Italian naval commandos, reinforcing the historical narrative behind the watch.

While today’s owners are more likely to wear the PAM01756 in the boardroom than beneath the waves, its specifications leave little doubt that this is a genuine professional instrument built to perform in demanding conditions.

The Verdict

The Submersible PAM01756 doesn’t reinvent Panerai’s formula, it refines it. By introducing a metal bracelet to the popular 44mm case, simplifying the dial with a no-date layout and retaining the robust engineering expected from the Submersible collection, Panerai has produced one of its most wearable dive watches to date.

For enthusiasts who appreciate Panerai’s distinctive aesthetic but have been waiting for a factory bracelet option in this size, the PAM01756 could prove to be one of the brand’s most compelling releases of the year.
