Poljot-International ‘Sputnik’ Born Of A Pioneering Spirit

There are watches that just tell the time, and then there are watches that tell a story. With the new ‘Sputnik’, Poljot-International reaches back to one of humanity’s most daring chapters, the dawn of space exploration.

On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union stunned the world by launching Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth. It wasn’t just a technological breakthrough, it was a defining moment that ignited the space race and reshaped our understanding of what was possible. Originally expected much later, the mission’s early success only amplified its impact. For 92 days, that small, spherical object circled our planet before burning up on re-entry, its legacy, however, never fading.

The ‘Sputnik’ watch channels that same sense of wonder and ambition into a striking wrist-bound narrative. Its design is unapologetically thematic, yet refined. A second time zone sits neatly at 3 o’clock, while the lower dial depicts Earth itself. Above it, the satellite traces its orbital path, a visual tribute that brings motion and history together. At 6 o’clock, the small seconds display becomes part of that orbital storytelling, with a red-tipped hand adding a precise and dynamic accent.

Legibility hasn’t been sacrificed for artistry. Rectangular hour markers line the dial’s edge, treated with blue luminous material for clarity in low light. The hands follow suit, glowing with the same cool intensity. At 9 o’clock, a poetic day/night indicator, sun, moon, and stars, adds another layer of celestial charm.

The strap continues the narrative. Finished in a muted grey-blue, it evokes the vastness of the sky, executed in soft velour leather with subtle stitching. A recessed metal logo integrates seamlessly, reinforcing the watch’s cohesive aesthetic.

Turn the watch over, and the story continues. Through the exhibition case back, the skeletonised and engraved manual-winding calibre 9931-PI reveals itself—mechanical, intricate, and alive. With a 36-hour power reserve, it beats steadily within a 43mm stainless steel case, protected by sapphire crystal.

Limited to just 400 pieces worldwide, the ‘Sputnik’ offers something increasingly rare: a distinctive concept, thoughtfully executed, at a compelling price point.
