Van Brauge Fifty Three Soars To New Heights

Van Brauge Watch Company create watches that blend classic designs with modern technology while always keeping quality first.

The Van Brauge Fifty Three timepiece was inspired by the prestigious Scandinavian air lines, navigating the vast expanse of the North Pole en route to the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles. The legendary flights through the Arctic skies serve as an ode to human exploration, traversing the limits of our ever-evolving world.

This luxurious connection between land and sky, past and present, is harmoniously embodied in the elegant design and sophisticated aesthetics of the Polar Router watch designed by Gérald Genta (see main image). The modern day interpretation has a highly polished, three-piece stainless steel body and case back with an 18K gold bezel (also available in Steel or Gold), featuring sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating and hidden gaskets front and back. This also includes a screwed-down case back and screw-in case tube fitted with a triple gasket crown. The case is 43mm in diameter, with a thickness of 13mm and measures 22mm between the lugs.

Classic 1950s style half dial with black sunray finished centre with white printing and Super-LumiNova® hour indicators and date. The outer dial is hydraulically pressed with applied diamond-cut, gold indexes. The gold hands are diamond cut with applied Super-LumiNova® C1.

The modified 11 ½ ligne calibre VB – 24A automatic movement features 26 jewels, perlage and blued screws. Other highlights include a Glucydur balance, an Anachron balance spring and a Nivaflex 1 mainspring. The balance has a frequency of 28,800 bph and features a 38-hour power reserve and a skeletonised, decorated rotor. The movement is suspended in a ring of mu-metal which helps protect it from excessive magnetic forces.

The watch’s Super Luminous Nova properties on the dial’s well-defined indexes and hands, which are all easily visible and legible, even during low-light conditions. This feature ensures that the watch can be used effectively in all lighting situations, from the illuminated brightness of day to the subdued glow of night.

The watch is supplied in a beautiful, handmade British Racing Green box, featuring the Fifty Three outer sleeve. The box contains a customised spring bar tool, a luxury polishing cloth, hangtag, owner’s medallion, a spare strap and the combined brochure and warranty booklet.

The Van Brauge Fifty Three in steel and gold is a wonderful timepiece. Everything about the watch screams quality, from the highly polished case finish to the beautiful Everglade alligator strap and sumptuous presentation box – it’s all in the detail. Overall I was extremely impressed with the watch which at £4,995 represents excellent value.
