Hanhart UR Frosted Meteorite AQUASPHERE Is Out Of This World

A small piece of the cosmos meets German dive-watch engineering as Hanhart unveils a particularly distinctive interpretation of its AQUASPHERE collection.

Limited to just 82 examples, the UR Frosted Meteorite AQUASPHERE brings together genuine extraterrestrial material, purposeful engineering and a refreshing touch of individuality.

There are few materials in watchmaking that can capture the imagination quite like meteorite. Formed millions, sometimes billions, of years ago and travelling through space before finding its way to Earth, it carries a story that no conventional dial material can hope to replicate. For its latest creation, Hanhart has brought this remarkable natural material to the wrist with the UR Frosted Meteorite AQUASPHERE, a watch that is as intriguing in its origins as it is in its execution.

Developed in collaboration with Marcus Finger of Uhrenratgeber, the limited edition takes the established AQUASPHERE platform and gives it an entirely new personality. At its heart is a dial crafted from genuine meteorite, its naturally occurring crystalline structure creating an individual pattern on every example. No two dials are alike, making each watch a genuinely personal expression of this extraordinary material.

The surface has a subtle frosted, silvery appearance, changing character as the light catches its intricate texture. Hanhart has wisely resisted the temptation to overcomplicate the design. Instead, restrained blue accents provide a welcome contrast, appearing on the seconds hand and the UR logo, while the anthracite ceramic bezel maintains the watch’s cool, contemporary aesthetic.

AQUASPHERE – Built for the Deep

Beneath its celestial exterior, this remains a serious dive watch. The 42mm stainless steel case combines satin-finished and polished surfaces, with balanced proportions that give it a confident yet wearable presence. Measuring just 12.95mm in height, with a 49mm lug-to-lug dimension, it offers a surprisingly compact profile for a watch with such substantial underwater credentials.

The unidirectional rotating bezel features a scratch-resistant ceramic insert, while a helium escape valve reinforces its professional diving credentials. Water resistance is rated to an impressive 30 bar (300 metres), and the convex sapphire crystal benefits from an internal anti-reflective treatment.

Legibility, as one would expect from a dedicated dive watch, is paramount. The hands and hour markers are treated with Super-LumiNova® BGW9, delivering a vivid blue glow in low-light conditions. The result is a watch that balances its unusual dial material with the practical requirements of an instrument designed for underwater use.

Powering the watch is an automatic mechanical movement, specified as either a Sellita SW 200-1 or Soprod calibre, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. It provides hours, minutes and central seconds, keeping the focus firmly on clarity and reliability.

An Individual Piece of the Universe

Turn the watch over and the screw-down caseback reveals another thoughtful detail: an embossed underwater scene, accompanied by the individual limited-edition number. With production restricted to just 82 pieces, this is a notably exclusive addition to the AQUASPHERE family.

The stainless steel bracelet completes the package, with a 20mm lug width and a folding clasp incorporating multi-stage fine adjustment for added comfort throughout the day.

What makes the UR Frosted Meteorite AQUASPHERE particularly appealing is the contrast at the heart of its identity. On one hand, there is the romance of a material that originated far beyond our planet; on the other, the dependable, functional engineering of a German watchmaker with a long-standing heritage.

Hanhart has created something that feels genuinely different without losing sight of what a dive watch should be. It is not simply a conventional AQUASPHERE with an unusual dial, but a considered reinterpretation that gives the collection a fresh dimension.

For collectors who appreciate watches with a story to tell, the UR Frosted Meteorite AQUASPHERE offers a compelling proposition. After all, it is not every day that a piece of the universe finds its way onto your wrist.
