Alexander Shorokhoff BIG DATE MOP Is A Bold Statement In Colour, Form And Function

Alexander Shorokhoff has long championed the idea that a watch should do more than tell the time, it should make a statement. Last year’s introduction of the manufacture’s first Big Date chronograph marked a significant technical milestone.

Now, the follow‑up arrives with even greater artistic ambition, the BIG DATE MOP, fuses mechanical sophistication with a daring palette and a striking mother‑of‑pearl composition.

The Big Date display, positioned prominently at 12 o’clock, presents the full sequence from 01 to 31 using two large-format discs. It’s a functional enhancement, but also a visual one: the enlarged numerals give the watch a sportier, more assertive presence.

Driving this complication is the Dubois‑Depraz DD4500 automatic chronograph, a movement chosen for its ability to synchronise both date discs with precision. It’s a complex mechanism, and Shorokhoff’s finishing elevates it further, a hand‑engraved rotor, blued screws, and meticulous detailing visible through the exhibition case back.

The BIG DATE MOP is unmistakably part of the Avantgarde collection. The outer minute ring bursts with colour, each minute marked in a different hue, creating a dynamic visual rhythm around the dial. The centre and flanking sections are crafted from mother‑of‑pearl, including darker MOP areas that shimmer dramatically as light moves across the surface. This interplay between iridescence and colour gives the watch a kinetic quality even when it’s still.

White lacquered hands ensure clarity against the vivid backdrop, while the petrol‑coloured leather strap anchors the design with understated elegance. With only 30 pieces available worldwide, the BIG DATE MOP is crafted for collectors who appreciate technical ingenuity wrapped in bold artistic expression. It’s a chronograph that refuses to conform, an object of colour, creativity, and mechanical depth.
