Vacheron Constantin Overseas Has New Ultra-Thin Calibre 2550 Movement
In the rarefied world of haute horlogerie, the pursuit of slimness is never merely about aesthetics, it is a technical challenge that tests the very limits of watchmaking expertise. With the introduction of the Calibre 2550, Vacheron Constantin once again demonstrates its mastery in the art of ultra-thin mechanical movements, combining elegance, innovation, and performance in a remarkably refined package.

A Legacy of Slim Excellence
Ultra-thin watchmaking has long been part of the Maison’s DNA. From the groundbreaking Calibre 1003 of 1955 to the legendary self-winding Calibre 1120 of 1968, Vacheron Constantin has consistently pushed the boundaries of miniaturisation while preserving reliability and precision. The new Calibre 2550 continues this lineage, embodying decades of expertise while introducing a thoroughly modern architecture.
Seven Years in the Making
Developed over seven years, the Calibre 2550 measures an astonishing 2.4 mm in thickness, yet delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve, a combination rarely achieved at this level of slimness. This remarkable feat is the result of a complete rethinking of movement construction, where every micron matters.
At the heart of this innovation lies a trio of key components, a bi-directional micro-rotor, a suspended double barrel, and a compact single-level gear train. Together, they form an integrated system designed to maximise efficiency within an extremely confined space.

The micro-rotor, crafted from dense 950 platinum, is embedded directly into the mainplate, reducing overall height while maintaining optimal winding performance. Meanwhile, the suspended double barrel, arranged in a stacked configuration, ensures consistent torque delivery and contributes significantly to the extended power reserve. Completing the ensemble, a re-engineered gear train operates on a single level, enhancing both robustness and energy transmission.
Engineering Meets Artistry
Beyond its technical prowess, the Calibre 2550 is a showcase of traditional finishing. The movement features circular graining on the mainplate, Geneva stripes on the bridges, and meticulously finished wheels and barrels. The platinum micro-rotor itself is adorned with a compass rose motif, reflecting the spirit of the Overseas collection.
The Overseas Ultra-Thin, A New Benchmark
Making its debut within the Overseas Self-Winding Ultra-Thin, this new calibre finds its home in a 39.5 mm platinum case measuring just 7.35 mm thick, the slimmest in the collection to date. The watch is presented in a limited edition of 255 pieces, each individually numbered.

Its aesthetic is understated yet striking, featuring a salmon-lacquered dial with a sunburst satin finish, paired with the cool lustre of platinum. This combination, rooted in the Maison’s heritage, offers a contemporary interpretation of classic elegance.
The watch also retains the versatility expected of the Overseas line, including interchangeable straps and a robust construction suited to everyday wear, proving that ultra-thin does not mean fragile.
Pushing Boundaries, Respecting Tradition
With the Calibre 2550, Vacheron Constantin reaffirms its commitment to innovation guided by tradition. It is not merely about making movements thinner, but about doing so without compromise, preserving performance, durability, and beauty in equal measure.

In a world where complexity often dominates headlines, this achievement is a reminder that simplicity, when executed at the highest level, can be the ultimate sophistication.
