Jaeger-LeCoultre Introduces A More Refined Polaris Date

Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled a refined new version of its Polaris Date, introducing a more compact 40mm case while preserving the collection’s distinctive blend of sporting functionality and everyday elegance.

The latest addition to the Polaris family arrives in stainless steel and features a slimmer 12.9mm profile, offering improved comfort and versatility without sacrificing the strong wrist presence that has become a hallmark of the collection.

A Modern Interpretation of a Classic

Inspired by the legendary Memovox Polaris of 1968, the contemporary Polaris collection has successfully bridged the gap between luxury sports watch and everyday companion since its relaunch in 2018. This latest Polaris Date continues that philosophy, combining robust practicality with the refined finishing expected from Jaeger-LeCoultre.

The new proportions will undoubtedly appeal to collectors seeking a more versatile sports watch, with the reduced diameter making it suitable for a broader range of wrist sizes.

Signature Polaris Design

The dial remains unmistakably Polaris. A rich blue gradient lacquer finish creates impressive depth, while bold Arabic numerals, elongated trapezoidal hour markers and skeletonised hands ensure excellent legibility.

As with previous Polaris models, the dial construction is particularly impressive. Multiple layers of coloured and translucent lacquer are painstakingly applied and polished by hand, creating the collection’s signature graduated effect that shifts beautifully under changing light conditions.

All key indications are coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring visibility long after the sun goes down. A defining feature of the Polaris remains its internal rotating bezel, controlled by the upper crown. Originally inspired by the collection’s diving heritage, it provides a practical way to track elapsed time while contributing to the watch’s distinctive twin-crown profile.

Manufacture Movement

Powering the watch is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house automatic Calibre 899, visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. The movement delivers a healthy 70-hour power reserve and reflects the Manufacture’s commitment to designing, producing and assembling its movements entirely under one roof.

Water resistance is rated to 200 metres, reinforcing the Polaris Date’s credentials as a genuine sports watch rather than simply a sporty-looking timepiece.

The Verdict

By reducing the case size to 40mm while retaining the collection’s strongest visual signatures, Jaeger-LeCoultre has arguably made the Polaris Date more compelling than ever. Elegant enough for daily wear yet robust enough for weekend adventures, it remains one of the most understated luxury sports watches available today.
